Sylvan Union School District (SUSD) is committed to providing a high-quality education to our students that nurtures academic growth in a safe, modern learning environment. Our strong neighborhood schools improve the quality of life in our community for everyone.
Some of our schools were built in the 1960s and need repairs and upgrades to meet modern academic and safety standards. Additionally, our play areas are outdated and need to be upgraded to meet modern safety standards. Congested parking lots and drop-off zones create significant traffic problems that must be addressed.
To meet current safety and education standards, it is time to modernize and upgrade our schools. The state does not provide funding for facilities, so the District cannot repair and upgrade schools without locally controlled, voter-approved funding.
Local Funding for Safe, Updated Schools
The SUSD Board of Education has voted to place Measure N, a school facilities bond measure, on the November 2026 ballot.
Funding from Measure N could be used to:
- Upgrade classroom instruction in math, science, reading, and writing
- Provide updated science, technology, engineering, and math classrooms
- Renovate or replace aging and expand restroom facilities
- Equip classrooms with learning technology to prepare students for high school, college, and beyond
- Develop, construct, install and improve outdoor play areas including structures, ground surfaces and building/installing shade structures
- Update schools to improve campus/student safety and security including installing additional fencing and gates, intercom, enhanced camera and emergency communications systems, lighting systems, bell systems, fire and life safety system
Measure N would provide $70 million in locally controlled, voter-approved funding at a rate of $25 per $100,000 of a property’s assessed (not market) value per year.
Measure N would be transparent and include strict fiscal accountability provisions. All funds would be used in SUSD schools only and could not be used by the State or used for other purposes.
