RE: Selection of Finalist for Superintendent
Sylvan Union School District is delighted to announce that a finalist for the position of Superintendent has been determined by the Board of Trustees and final negotiations for a contract are in progress. It is anticipated that ratification of the appointment will occur at the March 15, 2022, regular meeting of the Board of Trustees. The decision was made with input gathered from key community partners and focus groups, in the District, regarding the best qualities of the next Superintendent. Sally Frazier, from the firm, Leadership Associates, assisted the Board with the search.
Board President Harvey stated, “Based on the feedback received from our parents, staff and community members, the board was looking for a candidate who is a collaborative leader and who is familiar with and committed to Sylvan Union School District’s mission, vision, core values, and community. After a rigorous screening and interview process, the Board is confident the best fit for SUSD has been selected. As a twenty-five year veteran of Sylvan Union School District, Diolinda (Didi) Peterson has been selected as the finalist for the superintendent position.”
Didi Peterson began her teaching career in SUSD in 1996 and was an elementary and middle school teacher for 15 years before moving into site administration. She was also a parent in the District when her daughter attended SUSD. She was the assistant principal at Crossroads Elementary, interim principal at Mary Ann Sanders and the principal at Orchard Elementary before becoming the Director of Human Resources in 2015. She has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for the past four years and was recognized as the ACSA Personnel and Human Resources Administrator of the Year for 2021-2022.
Didi Peterson stated that "It is an honor and privilege for me to continue to support our learning community and I am grateful and humbled that the Board of Trustees has selected me to be the Superintendent. I am especially proud of the shared work of our committed educators and staff who, working with our families, have never lost sight of our primary mission: to provide a safe, engaging, supportive space to ensure high levels of learning for all students.” She further stated that she is excited about the opportunity to continue her work with SUSD on behalf of students, families and staff.
