Superintendent's Message for the 2026-2027 school year:

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year!  Thank you for choosing to be part of the Sylvan Union School District. We are honored to partner with you as we support every student on their educational journey. Sylvan is a remarkable community made up of committed professionals who create learning spaces where every child belongs and knows that they are valued. Our schools are places where students and families are greeted each day with warmth and respect, creating welcoming environments. Students engage in rich, high-quality academic instruction complemented by meaningful enrichment opportunities. 

It is the district’s commitment to fostering supportive and rigorous learning environments and ensuring student success that makes Sylvan such a meaningful place in which to learn and work. Sylvan has been my professional home since 1996 where I have had the privilege of teaching both elementary and middle school students for fifteen years before serving as a site administrator and later as a district administrator. Being your Superintendent is not just a job for me, it is my vocation and Sylvan has been an integral part of my own journey for thirty years. My personal and professional goal for the Sylvan District is that all students will achieve at high levels and all staff are lifelong learners who are well-supported by our district in the important work of educating our children. Everything we say and do matters and so I commit to you that I will be actively engaged and visible, consistently visiting and gathering feedback from our sites and departments, staff and students. As I often share, in Sylvan, we are committed to the work we do and we are devoted to who we do it for—our students. 

Supporting our school and home partnership, we will continue to connect with our families and community. All of our sites offer multiple parent/family engagement activities including Parent Picnics, Literacy Nights and many PTA celebrations like the Jog-A-Thon and Carnivals/Festivals throughout the year. We will offer two district-wide family engagement evening events that will provide information and support for our families. These events will also give our parents and community members the opportunity to share their own stories and experiences as we work together for the shared success of our students. We invite you to partner with us because when schools, families and communities work together, students achieve even more. Your involvement enriches our schools and we value your voice.

We are committed to creating inclusive, welcoming learning environments where our students know that they belong, make lasting and positive relationships with staff and peers and meet their achievement milestones at school. Thank you for being an important part of the Sylvan story. I am grateful for the trust you place in us and look forward to the year ahead as we continue learning, growing and celebrating together.
