Mark Fabela, Director of Technology

About Me

Hi there! I’m Mark Fabela, Director of Technology here at Sylvan Union School District—also known as the guy people call when “the internet is broken” or “the screen just went black.” I’ve proudly been part of the Sylvan team since 2021, and I’ve been in the tech field since floppy disks were still a thing (yes, really—1998!).

Over the years, I’ve worked as a computer repair technician, a network and systems engineer, and now I have the privilege of leading a fantastic team of tech professionals who keep our systems running and our users sane. While I love all things technology, my true passion is helping people. I believe technology should make our jobs easier, not feel like a level in a video game we didn’t ask to play.

What gets me out of bed (besides coffee) is the opportunity to help our staff get over the tech hurdle so they can focus on giving students the best possible experience. I’m especially proud to do this in the very community I grew up in. I attended Sylvan schools myself, so leading tech here is a full-circle moment—and a meaningful one.

At home, I’m a family guy with a wonderful wife, two kids, and a small zoo's worth of pets, who constantly remind me that I may run the Tech department, but I do not run the house. I rock out to Heavy Metal music and love working on home projects.

If you ever need help, have questions, or just want to geek out about gadgets, feel free to reach out. Just don’t ask me to fix your printer without offering chocolate.
